Coastal view from Negeri Sembilan
Our Story

A Quiet Corner of the Coast, Done Well

Keelward began with one boat, one estuary, and a preference for small groups over large fleets. It still operates the same way.

Who We Are

Founded on the Linggi River

Keelward was established in Seremban by a small group of people who shared a working familiarity with the Strait of Malacca's western shore — its tides, its reefs, and its quieter coves. The impetus was simple: a belief that this stretch of Malaysian coastline deserved more thoughtful attention than day-tripper ferries could give it.

Our departures are deliberately small. Each vessel carries no more than eight guests, which keeps the experience personal and the deck uncrowded. We operate from Seremban and the Negeri Sembilan coast — a less-visited region that offers distinctive access to the Linggi estuary, the reefs near Tanjung Tuan, and the islands of the southern Strait.

We are not a large charter company. We run a modest number of departures per week, maintain our vessels carefully, and employ a crew drawn from the local maritime community. Growth for its own sake has never been a goal — the priority has always been the quality of each individual sail.

The People Aboard

The Crew Behind the Compass

Each member of the Keelward team brings a specific background to life on the water — navigation, ecology, local food, or marine safety.

RA

Razif Aminuddin

Skipper & Founder

Razif has been navigating the Strait of Malacca for over fifteen years. He holds a Master Mariner certificate and designed Keelward's three core routes himself, drawing on years of local passage-making experience.

LH

Lim Huay Shan

Marine Ecologist & Guide

Huay Shan studied marine biology at Universiti Malaya before joining the team. She leads the marine ecology narration on reef trips and ensures that all snorkel stops respect the health of the coral communities below.

NA

Nurul Aiman

On-Board Cook & Provisions

Nurul prepares all meals aboard the three-day cruise and sources ingredients from local markets in Seremban and Port Dickson. Her cooking draws on Negeri Sembilan's distinctive Minangkabau-influenced cuisine.

How We Operate

Standards We Maintain

The details that guests rarely see are the ones we attend to most carefully.

Marine Certification

All Keelward vessels are registered with the Department of Marine, Malaysia. Safety equipment is inspected before each departure and maintained to current Malaysian maritime standards.

Passenger Safety Protocol

Every departure begins with a full safety briefing. Life jackets, flares, and communication equipment are on board and checked. Crew members hold current first aid certifications.

Environmental Responsibility

We follow reef-safe anchoring procedures and never anchor directly on coral. Waste management on board is handled to Department of Environment standards, and we carry no single-use plastics.

Guest Privacy

Guest data collected through enquiries and bookings is handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. We do not share personal information with third parties.

Vessel Maintenance Schedule

Each vessel undergoes quarterly mechanical inspection and annual hull survey. We maintain a detailed maintenance log and do not operate any vessel with outstanding safety-related issues.

Weather Decision Protocol

Departure decisions are made no later than the evening before, based on official Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts. We will always contact guests directly with any changes or postponements.

The Keelward Approach to Coastal Tourism

Keelward operates in a part of Malaysia that sits outside the primary tourist circuits. The Negeri Sembilan coastline, the Linggi estuary, and the reef systems near Cape Rachado are not widely known to visitors from Kuala Lumpur or overseas — and that relative quiet is something the team actively values. Departures are sized and timed to preserve the character of each location rather than maximise passenger volume.

The yacht tours draw on the region's genuine maritime character: the narrow estuary channel that opens onto the Strait, the cape lighthouse that has stood since the Portuguese period, the reef communities that support a range of fish species rarely encountered in more heavily visited dive destinations. Marine ecology narration is provided not as a scripted presentation but as a conversation — guests are encouraged to ask questions and to look carefully at what surrounds them.

Keelward believes that unhurried movement along the coast is its own reward. The three-day Southern Islands Trail was conceived precisely for this reason — to allow guests enough time on the water to stop thinking about schedules and simply be present in a place. The itinerary is built around flexibility rather than rigid timetables, and the cook's menu changes depending on what is fresh and available locally at each stage of the journey.
