Why Keelward

A Thoughtful Approach to the Water

We keep groups small and itineraries unhurried — so each trip feels like it was planned for you.

Small Group Departures

A maximum of eight guests per sail keeps the atmosphere calm and the deck uncrowded — more space, more attention, more sea.

Experienced Local Crew

Our crew knows the Strait's tides, currents, and coastal geography with the confidence that only years of regular passage can build.

Malaysian Menus on Board

From roti canai at dawn to nasi lemak at noon — meals are freshly prepared and draw on familiar regional flavours, not generic buffet spreads.

Distinctive Departure Points

Our half-day sail begins in the Linggi River estuary — a narrow, mangrove-lined channel that most coastal tours simply bypass.

Safety Without Ceremony

Full safety briefings, properly maintained equipment, and coast guard–registered vessels — handled quietly so guests can simply enjoy the trip.

Respectful of the Environment

We follow reef-safe anchoring practices and avoid sensitive marine habitats — because the coastline we sail is the one we want to protect.

Common Questions

Before You Book

What's the best departure for first-time sailors?
Most guests new to sailing find the Quiet Waters Half Day a comfortable start — the four-hour duration is long enough to feel the open water, short enough to stay entirely relaxed. The calm conditions along the Strait of Malacca's western shore also make for a gentle introduction.
Do I need sailing experience to join a trip?
No sailing background is needed for any of our departures. Guests are passengers — the crew handles all navigation. You're welcome to ask questions or simply sit back and enjoy the coastline.
How far in advance should I enquire?
For half-day and full-day trips, a week's notice is usually sufficient. For the three-day Southern Islands Trail, we recommend reaching out two to three weeks ahead — particularly during school holiday periods and long weekends in Malaysia.
What happens if weather conditions are poor?
Departures depend on sea conditions. When we assess the weather as unsuitable for a comfortable sail, we will contact you to discuss rescheduling. Keelward monitors conditions closely and will always be transparent about any changes to planned departures.
Are the prices per person or for the boat?
Prices are per person. Groups wishing to charter a full departure privately are welcome to contact us to discuss arrangements — we occasionally accommodate private group bookings when the schedule allows.
What should I bring on board?
Light, comfortable clothing and a layer for the breeze. Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Snorkel gear is provided for the Full Day trip. For the three-day cruise, we'll send a packing list when you confirm your place.
